Haas has revealed the names of the reserve drivers for the 2024 Formula 1 season, featuring a confirmation and a young addition from Ferrari.
The American team Haas has announced who the reserve drivers will be ready to step in if Hulkenberg or Magnussen are unavailable.
For its reserves, Haas has decided to confirm the lineup already seen in the post-season tests in Abu Dhabi. At the Yas Marina circuit, Pietro Fittipaldi and Oliver Bearman alternated behind the wheel of the VF-23. On one hand, the experience of the artistic nephew, on the other, the crystalline talent of the very young Briton.
For Pietro Fittipaldi (27 years old), the 2024 season will be his sixth with the team. The Brazilian also has two participations in a Grand Prix, in the final rounds of 2020 after Romain Grosjean’s terrible accident. In addition to the reserve role, Fittipaldi will also be involved in the IndyCar championship with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. The dual commitment has made the choice of an additional driver necessary.
For the second reserve, Haas has decided to bet on one of the current young talents, the Englishman Oliver Bearman. For him, the role with the American team will not be the only one as a reserve; in recent days, Ferrari has also chosen him as a reserve. Despite his very young age, just 18 years old, Bearman has already started a path towards F1, thanks to numerous private tests at the Fiorano circuit.
As a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, in 2023, he had several opportunities to test the VF-23, both in FP1 and in post-season tests. In 2024, the British driver will also have six more Free Practice 1 sessions to get a feel for the behavior of a Formula 1 car. In short, for the 2005-born driver, it will be a fiery season, where he must not lose sight of his primary goal: winning the Formula 2 title with Prema.
