All team principals
In Italy, it’s known that there are not only 60 million coaches for the national football team but also – especially when things are not going well – 60 million team principals of Scuderia Ferrari. All fans of the Prancing Horse believe they have the right recipe to finally turn the fortunes of the ‘red national team’ around, which for the time being does not seem to have been revitalized by the management of Frederic Vasseur. The Frenchman arrived in Maranello only a few months ago, and inevitably it will take time to steer a team that has been chasing the world title for over three decades.
The allure of Gunther
Obviously, given the recent transition between Mattia Binotto and Frederic Vasseur at the end of the 2022 Formula 1 campaign, it is expected that the Frenchman will be given years of time to work calmly. Yet, especially during the winter, there were quite a few fans of the red team who hoped for a different name for the role of team leader in Maranello. An interesting option would have been Gunther Steiner, the team principal of Haas since the American team entered Formula 1.
Connection with Haas
The Bolzano-born manager is known for his rather decisive and outspoken manner, often lacking filters. For this reason, many fans of the Prancing Horse considered him a highly suitable person to represent Scuderia Ferrari’s interests in such a complicated moment in the team’s history. However, Guenther Steiner himself has ruled out any temptation of a future move to Maranello, speaking in an interview with the German publication Bild: “I am very happy at Haas, and I have no ambition to go elsewhere,” Guenther Steiner said. “I want to finish my work here, so I don’t even think about it at the moment.” – he explained.
Retirement goal
The manager from Merano turned 58 this year and has been in the motorsport world for almost 40 years. For this reason, rather than transferring to another team, Guenther Steiner’s next target seems to be retirement: “Where will I be in 5 years? I have never made a five-year plan,” concluded Guenther Steiner, who is a close friend of former Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto. “My long-term goal is to stop racing. I’m not so young anymore.”
