Scuderia Ferrari showed up at the Miami International Autodrome in Florida, USA with an SF-23 single-seater that had a not completely new look, but with an important package of updates, even in non-visible areas. As promised by team principal Frederic Vasseur, in fact, starting from the United States and continuing for many weeks, the Italian side will bring constant updates, and what we saw on Sunday in Miami is just a preview of the SF-23 that will debut at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona.
Mercedes, on the other hand, has decided to concentrate the modifications and probably present the “B” version of its W14 single-seater already at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, which is scheduled to take place in Imola. Despite the results not being up to expectations and the car being difficult to understand in terms of behaviour and setup, Formula 1 journalist and Technical Drawer Giorgio Piola supports the Maranello team’s choice and claims that bringing these changes to Florida was positive.
First of all, the F1 expert spoke about the technical updates introduced by the Maranello engineers for the fifth round of the 2023 Formula One championship in Miami:
“They brought an entirely new floor: from the beginning of those vertical plates, which we improperly call bargeboards, along the entire side in the flanks and in the diffuser, it was completely different and revised compared to the previous solution,” the Italian engineer pointed out – “In my opinion, Ferrari did well to introduce this first piece of the package precisely to try to limit the unknowns and better understand the advantages and disadvantages. As Franco (Nugnes) said, the unknown in Miami was the new asphalt, which ruined all the studies done in Maranello and in the remote garage.” – he explained.

“For Ferrari, it has always been relatively easy to adapt to various types of track. Instead, it didn’t happen here, and in the race, it was a disaster,” Giorgio Piola concluded.
