George Russell is cautious about Ferrari’s performance during the Singapore Grand Prix weekend and also addresses his still-pending contract renewal with Mercedes.
As the season approaches its final races leading up to Abu Dhabi, the focus will be on securing the best possible positions in both championships and finalizing key contractual details for the next year. On this topic, George Russell spoke about his expectations for the Singapore weekend, highlighting his concerns over Ferrari, a direct competitor to Mercedes, and shared an update on his contract renewal, which has yet to be finalized.
“This upcoming weekend will be very challenging. We are on a street circuit, where even the smallest mistake can be very costly, especially with a Safety Car that could play a crucial role,” George Russell explained. “The conditions are extremely demanding, with humidity levels expected to exceed 80% and a high probability of rain, which will only make things more difficult.”
Looking at team performances, McLaren arrives in Singapore with strong expectations. Lando Norris demonstrated the car’s strength last year, dominating the race from start to finish on the streets of Singapore. Ferrari, however, is also a team to watch. Aside from last year’s slightly underwhelming performance, the team achieved victory with Carlos Sainz in 2023, while Charles Leclerc finished second the year before.
Indeed, Maranello’s Ferrari is one of the most feared teams among its rivals. The Briton made it clear in the press conference: “In recent years, Ferrari has always been very strong here in Singapore. We also know that McLaren performs exceptionally well in hotter races. I expect these two teams to be leading throughout the weekend.”
George Russell also addressed his contract situation with Mercedes, which has not yet been renewed, emphasizing that there is no cause for concern. “Things need to be done properly and in the right way. The renewal will be handled with the utmost care, and there’s nothing to worry about. It will happen when the time is right,” he said.
