Yesterday’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport focused on the development of the F1-75, the car that Ferrari will entrust to Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz for the 2022 Formula 1 season. The Italian daily newspaper also reported on the staff and the pair of drivers. Here is the analysis.
High sides and redesigned transmission
“The F1-75, designed by the staff directed by Enrico Cardile, will feature high sides and a zero-volume rear gait, which is a bit like the constructive philosophy of these single-seaters. And which respects what Mattia Binotto asked from the designers: to have courage and work without any prejudice (open mind). To enhance the air flows generated by the Venturi channel, the rear suspensions and the transmission have been redesigned. In winter the team worked hard to recover the downforce that the new rules have cut: at Montmelò they will understand how much”.
Great work to close the gap with rivals
“The power unit in 2021, while closing much of the gap from the previous year, still had a deficit of about twenty horsepower from Mercedes and Honda. Recovering them all is essential because the engine that will be frozen in Bahrain will have to remain on track until 2026. Engineers, led by Enrico Gualtieri, concentrated on Superfast ignition (“speeded up” in the pre-combustion chamber) with the aim of fully recovering the horsepower lost with bio petrol (10%). The hybrid component was tested in the last championship, and is therefore an enhanced evolution”.

Strengthened staff and trust in the Cardile-Sanchez duo
“Overcoming the 2020 crisis and returning to third place in the constructors’ standings was an important reaction from the Maranello team. But now Mattia Binotto and his men are facing the real test: to win again. The future of the team principal depends on this because a new failure would not be acceptable on the part of President John Elkann. Stability was the mantra followed: the management still trusts Enrico Cardile (project) and David Sanchez (aerodynamics), the same as in the excellent 2017-2018 years, with other people coming from Mercedes and Red Bull (about thirty in recent years) and internal scouting. Will that be enough? “.
The newspaper also focused on the young couple of drivers formed by Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz:
“Few couples are as talented and well matched as the one formed by Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. Young, fast, mature and with the character of a leader. Difficult to establish predetermined hierarchies, given how it went in 2021, with Carlos Sainz ahead of Charles Leclerc in the season of his debut with Ferrari. It will be the track that will decide. Charles will certainly want to redeem himself and with the right car he could return to shine as in 2019, when he scored the triumphs of Spa and Monza. Carlos is destined to be a constant motivation for his team mate. If F1-75 is able to fight for victory, they will turn from friends into rivals.”
The official presentation of the new car developed by Scuderia Ferrari will take place on Thursday 17 February at 2 pm. The event will available in live streaming on our website.
