In recent years, Formula 1 has been experiencing an extremely prosperous period, with many countries competing to host a Grand Prix. For cities, having a large number of visitors coming to see the circus brings significant economic benefits, and Liberty Media would not refuse any offers if it weren’t for the calendar being too long and exhausting. However, the city of Montreal seems to have a different view: as journalist Joe Saward reported, there were several issues caused by the organizers’ lack of attention during the last weekend. For example, the media parking was two kilometers from the entrance, and there were numerous leaks in the main building, forcing audio and video technicians into frantic efforts to save the equipment.
Currently, Formula 1 is discussing with the Quebec Minister of Economy to resolve some crucial issues, including the event date: ideally, it would be moved closer to the Miami GP, which cannot be shifted due to other events at the Hard Rock Stadium (or so they claim). If a compromise cannot be reached, there is already an alternative, provided by Toronto. The idea is still in its embryonic stage, but who knows if that contract signed until 2031 might be terminated.
Things are also getting interesting on the other side of the Atlantic: due to the competition, there are many renovation works underway at Monza and Silverstone, while Barcelona could lose out in favor of Madrid. However, even in this case, there could be a compromise, namely alternating races between Zandvoort and Montmeló; indeed, even the current governor of the Netherlands is not ready to meet the financial demands to host the event.
