No new circuit for Ferrari, but a new frontier in competition, as the Prancing Horse takes to the water with the new Hypersail.
Ferrari is changing horizons. After writing legendary pages on the track, the Prancing Horse is now preparing to challenge another element: the sea. Ferrari Hypersail is born—a project that brings the philosophy of extreme performance and technological research into the world of sailing.
At the helm of this new adventure is Giovanni Soldini, one of Italy’s most experienced and beloved sailors. Alongside him, the Ferrari team and French designer Guillaume Verdier are developing a 100-foot monohull (just over 30 meters), capable of flying across oceans using only three points of contact while sailing.
The technology? It’s what we’re used to seeing on the track: aerodynamic calculations, power management, and active stability control. It’s no coincidence that the boat will feature a flight control system directly derived from the experience gained with Ferrari Hypercars, stars of Le Mans. Being a Ferrari, technological innovation is front and center, and the new Hypersail includes a real gem among prototypes. Verdier’s completely new idea is that one of the foils will be supported by the canting keel, with the other points of contact being a foil on the rudder and, alternately, the two lateral foils.
But the real revolution lies elsewhere: total energy autonomy. No fossil fuels—only energy produced by the sun, wind, and the boat’s own movement. A challenge that, until now, many considered impossible for a vessel of this size.
A new chapter in Ferrari’s history
John Elkann, Ferrari chairman, speaks of a challenge that “takes us beyond our boundaries while keeping Ferrari’s tradition alive. Working with Soldini and Verdier is bringing to life a unique boat that will fly over the oceans and pave new paths for the automotive world as well.”
Giovanni Soldini, enthusiastic, highlights the value of teamwork: “A revolutionary project born from the meeting of different cultures and technologies. The goal? Maximum performance and total reliability, even in the most extreme conditions.”
The Hypersail project is also a laboratory of innovation. Nine patents have already been filed, with more on the way. All this is thanks to a team effort uniting Ferrari engineers, sailing experts, and energy efficiency specialists.
The launch is scheduled for 2026, but the spirit is already clear: to go beyond limits, without forgetting one’s roots. From the curves of Le Mans to the waves of the Atlantic, the Prancing Horse is ready to write another chapter of sport, innovation, and passion.
