Fred Vasseur responds after Ferrari addresses Christian Horner speculation
Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur has publicly addressed the recent statement from Scuderia Ferrari CEO John Elkann, which came amid growing speculation linking former Red Bull chief Christian Horner to the Maranello team.
Leading up to the United States Grand Prix in Austin, rumors had intensified about Horner potentially moving to Ferrari, particularly as the Scuderia has struggled to meet pre-season expectations of mounting a serious challenge for the Formula 1 World Championship. The team’s performance has been underwhelming, leaving Ferrari chasing consistency rather than titles.
Before the Austin weekend, where Charles Leclerc secured a third-place finish and Lewis Hamilton came fourth, chairman John Elkann reaffirmed the team’s support for Frederic Vasseur. John Elkann highlighted the importance of unity across the team, emphasizing that confidence in the Team Principal and his leadership of Ferrari’s engineers, mechanics, and drivers remains strong. He also underscored that the ultimate focus must remain on delivering peak performance on track, especially as Ferrari continues its title drought, having last claimed the Constructors’ Championship in 2008.
Following the Grand Prix, Fred Vasseur responded to the CEO’s statement, explaining that while such messages are appreciated by the team, he and his colleagues were already in regular communication. The French manager noted that the message was primarily aimed at external observers and media to halt speculation, allowing the Maranello team to maintain focus on upcoming challenges without being distracted by ongoing rumors.
Frederic Vasseur further explained that these public reassurances help close debates externally, enabling the Scuderia to concentrate fully on optimizing performance, preparing for future races, and maintaining momentum in the Constructors’ Championship battle.
As Ferrari looks ahead to the remaining races of the 2025 Formula 1 season, the emphasis remains on teamwork, strategic consistency, and delivering strong results for both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. With the former Red Bull team boss link rumors addressed, the team can now channel all energy into on-track performance and development efforts for 2025 and beyond.
