Frédéric Vasseur has positively commented on Ferrari’s Free Practice 2 session in Jeddah thanks to the good race pace shown by Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. The Ferrari team principal praised the Spanish driver, who was weakened by gastroenteritis.
Ferrari was not at the top of the leaderboard at the end of the free practice Friday for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, but both of the Reds have shown encouraging signs regarding their race pace.
Already in Sakhir, we had understood how close the cars were on a single lap, and today we were able to appreciate this again. But the race pace was particularly revealing. In this aspect too, Max Verstappen demonstrated his potential, but the SF-24s provided excellent feedback both on Soft and Medium tires.
At the end of Free Practice 2, Frédéric Vasseur commented on the work done by his team and expressed satisfaction, especially with the race simulation. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz showed interesting things, second only to the usual Max Verstappen.
“Overall, it was the session we were expecting,” began the Ferrari team principal. “Regarding the single lap, it’s hard to comment because I’m not at all sure we were all on the same fuel loads. But the session went well, and we managed to do two good laps.”
“We did well in terms of race pace; we were quite consistent, and the performance was there. I would say it was a good session for us, even though it was complex for Carlos because he wasn’t feeling well. However, he did a good job considering his condition.” – the French manager pointed out.

Today, the Ferrari cars ran with more loaded rear wings compared to their rivals, but according to Fred Vasseur, almost everyone will converge on the same level of load tomorrow.
“Regarding the level of aerodynamic load used, I believe we will all converge on the same level, with a few exceptions. We worked in this way to get the drivers well adapted to the track. There will be a significant improvement in the track from today to tomorrow, and I am sure we will all have the same level of load tomorrow.” – he explained.
Charles Leclerc surprised by doing the race simulation on Soft compounds, while Carlos Sainz worked on the Mediums. Fred Vasseur explained the choice made for the Monegasque’s stint.
“Last year we had the opportunity to race with Softs in the race with Charles. After the penalty, he came back in 12th and, putting on a set of Softs, he did quite well. It wasn’t a bad stint on his part, considering the degradation of the Softs. It was an opportunity to try something different.” – the Ferrari team principal concluded.
