Frederic Vasseur’s era as team principal or race director of Scuderia Ferrari in Formula 1 is about to begin. The former number one of the Alfa Romeo pitwall with a past as team boss in minor series is now one step away from crossing the gates of Maranello after finalizing the last details of the pre-contract agreement signed already in the summer when Fred Vasseur started to look around for possible opportunities after Audi confirmed its interest fr the future of Alfa Romeo-Sauber.
According to today’s edition of Il Corriere della Sera, the official announcement of Frederic Vasseur’s arrival at the top of the Ferrari Formula 1 Racing Division could be made as early as today. He will be the leading man for the track activities, because in terms of senior management powers, the managing director Benedetto Vigna is ready to take on a more than active and involved role in defining the Scuderia’s organization chart:
“He (Vasseur) will lead the team above all on the racetracks, while in Maranello the CEO’s influence Benedetto Vigna is destined to expand also in terms of decisions regarding the Formula 1 team. It is no mystery that the Italian physicist and businessman’s interest in racing blossomed suddenly. As well as the desire to get a handle on the management structure.” – reads the columns of Corriere della Sera.
As already underlined the recent days, what lies ahead is therefore a trio of team bosses with Simone Resta about to return to Maranello to cover what is currently a significant flaw in the structure of the Scuderia Ferrari, i.e. assume the role of technical director, even if a last-minute surprise cannot be ruled out. A formation that obviously will not have major impacts on the car for the 2023 Formula One season, which is now practically ready and on paper should not be affected by the reliability problems that limited the potential of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz in the 2022 campaign, given the fact that after several engine technical failures, the Maranello engineers decided to limit the power used on the F1-75 cars.

“The change at the top comes in the final stages of development for 2023, the new team principal will inherit a single-seater entirely designed under the supervision of Mattia Binotto, who is present in Maranello until the end of the year. The revolution is about to begin, we will soon find out where it will lead.” – concludes Il Corriere della Sera.
