Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur wants the team to keep taking things one race at a time: “Let’s focus on Belgium.”
Ferrari claims two wins from the last three Grands Prix
Ferrari’s rollercoaster start to the 2026 Formula 1 season has been perfectly illustrated by the recent triple-header at Barcelona, Spielberg and Silverstone. The SF-26 secured victory in Spain with Lewis Hamilton and followed it up with another triumph in the British Grand Prix thanks to Charles Leclerc. In between, however, Ferrari endured a difficult weekend in Austria, where the car lacked competitiveness throughout the race and finished comfortably outside the fight for the podium.
It has been an unpredictable campaign, but Ferrari appears to have found a positive development direction. The upgrades introduced over recent races are gradually making the SF-26 more competitive, giving the team growing confidence heading into the second half of the season. One of Frederic Vasseur’s biggest challenges is to keep both the team and the Ferrari fans emotionally balanced as the car’s performance continues to fluctuate from one circuit to another.
Frederic Vasseur keeps expectations under control
A clear example of how Frederic Vasseur is trying to avoid raising expectations too quickly came in his recent interview with the French publication Auto Hebdo. The Ferrari team principal said: “It’s the media talking about a championship fight. After Barcelona, people said Ferrari was back in the title race, and I said no. The following week, people said Ferrari was out of contention, and again I said no.”
Fred Vasseur also repeated the same message to Ferrari employees in Maranello: “Tomorrow morning (the Monday after Silverstone, ed.), I will take exactly the same approach with everyone at the factory, even if I won’t be there in person to tell them: ‘Guys, we had a good weekend, now let’s focus on Spa.’ We are still a long way from being champions, but we’re not starting from scratch either—we’re making progress step by step! That’s the reality. I never try to draw conclusions after just one or two races, whether the result is positive or negative. Let’s focus on Belgium and put together another strong race.”
