The Ferrari one-two at the 5.278-kilometre Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne, with Carlos Sainz leading Charles Leclerc, has caused team principal Fred Vasseur to momentarily abandon the “low profile” approach that has characterized his management so far.
While he is very much aware of the strength of the Max Verstappen – Red Bull duo, the Frenchman still believes Ferrari can fight fro winiing the constructors’ championship this year:
“The goal is to be competitive in the constructors’ championship,” Fred Vasseur confirmed in a recent interview for the Italian media – “Maybe for the drivers’ championship, this year is a bit early. But we’ll see.” – he added.
The French manager then shared a backstory about Melbourne’s winner, Carlos Sainz: “I have great respect for Carlos as a person and as a driver. When I told him about choosing Hamilton, we promised each other that we would push until the last corner of the last grand prix.”
Fred Vasseur and the Easter gift for Ferrari fans:
Regarding upcoming events, Fred Vasseur is aware of the hard work still separating Ferrari from reaching Red Bull: “Not every weekend will be like Melbourne, but I ask for no mistakes, to improve step by step, and to maintain the same determination,”

And, with Easter just around the corner, the team principal has no doubts about the gift he wants Ferrari fans find in the Easter egg. “More trophies. But it needs to be a big enough egg,” jokes Fred.
The truth is that Fred Vasseur has created a bold Ferrari team. It’s seen in the choices on the track and will be seen in the updates. No more chasing. Fred Vasseur’s Ferrari wants to set the pace. And so, the team is working on a massive update package to be introduced at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola. A real revolution is rumored, with the SF-24 to be completely overhauled in the area of the sidepods and radiator inlets.
It’s a different Ferrari, with an identity, and that isn’t afraid to make mistakes.
