Ferrari’s team principal, after Charles Leclerc’ third place in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at the Imola circuit which brought the Scuderia back to the podium in front of the tifosi, wants to support the Monegasque driver to break the ice on the Principality track. The simulations carried out in the Racing Department indicate a competitive Ferrari that can aim for pole position.
Charles Leclerc brought Ferrari back to the podium at Imola with third place in the Made in Italy and Emilia Romagna GP, reconnecting a thread that had broken with Michael Schumacher in 2006. Now the team wants to help the Monegasque driver who has never been successful at home.
Fred Vasseur, team principal of the Prancing Horse, motivates the Racing Department ahead of the Principality appointment: the Frenchman reveals that the simulations carried out in the Ferrari Racing Division have given encouraging results. Ferrari on the streets of Monte Carlo is therefore aiming for the first pole position of the 2024 Formula 1 season.
“A few days ago, it was our home race in Imola and this weekend, Charles will be on home turf in Monaco, a race that is unfinished business for him and we’d like to help him put it to bed. Carlos also loves racing in the Principality, where he took his first podium at the wheel of a Ferrari, so they are both very motivated. It’s generally accepted that, with the current generation of cars, overtaking is harder here than at any other track on the calendar, which means qualifying takes on even greater importance than usual. We will therefore be looking to make a step forward in this discipline, as so far this season we have lacked what it takes to be quickest of all. With this in mind, we have been working hard in the simulator and during engineering meetings, preparing everything down to the smallest detail and we fully intend to be front-runners.” – the French manager said, as reported by the Maranello team’s official website.
A good track position is crucial in Monaco, which is why nearly all teams will opt for a one-stop strategy to maintain it. In dry conditions, drivers typically start on the Soft or Medium compound tires to ensure pace and consistency during the opening laps. The window for switching to Hards generally falls between laps 22 and 38. However, if a Safety Car is deployed or it starts to rain, chaos can ensue, making the race as unpredictable as a spin at the roulette table.
