Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur has kicked off the Australian Grand Prix weekend by rallying for the Maranello team and anticipating high expectations at the Albert Park circuit in view of the third round of the season.
Scuderia Ferrari arrives at the Australian Grand Prix as the second force in the championship, and Fred Vasseur is fully aware of the value of his team. In the first two GPs of the season, in fact, the Maranello team has shown to be the only one capable of getting close to Red Bull.
In both initial races, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have outperformed all others, proving wrong those who had written off Ferrari. Sure, it remains the second force for now, but the work done is beginning to bear fruit.
Moreover, in Melbourne, the softer compounds proposed by Pirelli will be used for the first time. Therefore, this will be an important test bench for Maranello, which last year demonstrated excessive tire wear. Not only that: it is still unclear whether Carlos Sainz will race at the Albert Park circuit this weekend or if Ferrari Driver Academy member Oliver Bearman will once again take his place behind the wheel of the SF-24 single-seater. The Spaniard, in fact, was sidelined due to appendicitis, preventing him from racing in Jeddah, and he will now have to undergo further medical examinations to assess his physical condition.

Meanwhile, Fred Vasseur has previewed the 2024 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix weekend by providing insights into the approach of the Maranello team. “After what we’ve seen in the first two races, now we have to prepare for the longest trip of the entire season that brings us here to Melbourne,” the French manager anticipates.
“We have shown that we have worked well during the first two rounds of the championship and demonstrated that we are currently the second force after Red Bull. Here in Melbourne, we might see a repeat of what happened in Jeddah with a very aggressive approach to try to put pressure on our rivals,” concludes the Ferrari team principal ahead of the Australian Grand Prix.
