Ferrari, Fred Vasseur disappointed after Brazil
Ferrari makes negative headlines in Brazil, and Frederic Vasseur tries to motivate the team as best as he can. The race at Interlagos started in the worst possible way for the Scuderia of Maranello, not only from a sporting perspective (with Charles Leclerc out during the formation lap due to a hydraulic issue) but also in terms of the team’s image: Carlos Sainz even asked to throw the clutch in the trash after a bad start. The Frenchman picks up the pieces and comments on the race which was held at the Interlagos circuit.
Fred Vasseur’s comments
“What happened with Charles Leclerc is more than disappointing. We had placed all our hopes on the race; we didn’t use a new set in qualifying to allocate it to the Grand Prix. We were very focused on today, but due to a technical problem, we couldn’t even start. We could have done the race with three sets of new tires, which would have been a huge opportunity for us, especially given the race result. Certainly, Charles is disappointed, just like we are, but it’s how it went. We haven’t understood the reason for this issue yet, and we’ll need to analyze the car. However, now we need to focus on the next race because this weekend, we had better pace than Mercedes and could have made a significant recovery,” commented the Frenchman to Sky Sport F1. “It was a problem with the system that controls the engine, and it shut down, but we don’t know the cause because the car hasn’t returned yet. It certainly wasn’t a driver’s error. I think we’ll talk to Charles tonight, and I perfectly understand his reaction in this kind of situation. We were mainly focused on the long race, especially after qualifying on the front row.” – the French manager pointed out at the end of the Brazilian Grand Prix.
“The issue is when you start from behind, you’re half a second slower on every lap, and the gap widens. Today, of course, we didn’t have Verstappen’s pace, but it’s not representative. There’s no doubt we couldn’t match Max’s pace, but starting with Charles in front, in cleaner air, we would have been faster.” – he continued.

“In ten days, we’ll be back in Las Vegas, and today we showed we had better pace than Mercedes. Two races are left, and we’ll do our best and give it our all to recover. Will we change the engine? If there are no issues with the engine, it doesn’t make sense to take a penalty for a power unit replacement. I don’t believe there are any engine problems.” – the Ferrari team principal concluded.
