The 2023 Brazilian Formula 1 Grand Prix turned out to be a black day for Charles Leclerc as the Monegasque driver was forced to retire due to a hydraulic issue with his Ferrari SF-23 car, which sent him into the wall at Turn 8. The race continued without Ferrari #16, providing a clear path for Max Verstappen, whose only real rival became Lando Norris. Upon returning to the pits, Charles Leclerc answered journalists’ questions and said: “Maybe a trip to Lourdes is what I need!”
The Brazilian weekend ended in the worst possible way for Charles Leclerc. The Ferrari driver, who had managed to qualify in second place under challenging conditions on Friday, had to bid farewell to the race even before the formation lap. A hydraulic problem, which ironically seemed to resolve itself once Charles Leclerc had already parked the car, shattered the hopes of the Scuderia.
“I can’t say what happened,” Charles Leclerc told Sky Sport’s microphones. “I lost hydraulic steering control, and then the rear wheels locked themselves due to an engine safety system. I ended up in the wall, and today I couldn’t do anything.” – the Monegasque driver continued.
“I’m angry and very disappointed; we could have done very well this weekend, and instead, we’re heading home after just three corners. It stings a bit. This year has been full of misfortunes; maybe a trip to Lourdes could help me.”
“I really don’t know what to do,” Charles Leclerc added. “My best effort is to do a good job in the car. When I put my helmet on, everyone can count on my 150%. It hurts right now, but we’ll talk to the team. With all the bad luck today, maybe they could have let us recover the car and restart, but obviously, it wasn’t accepted.” – the Ferrari man concluded on a very disappointing Sunday afternoon at the 4.309-kilometre Autódromo José Carlos Pace, better known as Autódromo de Interlagos.
