As reported in Wednesday’s edition of the Italian daily newspaper TuttoSport, the Frenchman was highly critical of the Maranello team’s errors and also took responsibility. Frederic Vasseur began his statement by addressing the mistakes made in Monaco, saying: “I take responsibility for the decision to call Charles Leclerc with Lando Norris coming, which led to the impeding and the three grid position penalties. Perhaps we need to strengthen the communication within the group with the engineers. I have apologized to Charles because that’s what you do in a team. Even the drivers, when they make a mistake, apologize in the post-session meeting with the engineers. It’s not the end of the world. As for Carlos Sainz, he was very ‘vocal’ on the team radio, but after the race, we discussed it, and Carlos agreed on the needed to defend against Lewis Hamilton. Regarding the subsequent decision on wet tyres, it was a gamble, whether to be conservative or wait for a Safety Car.” – the Ferrari team principal explained.

The Frenchman then concluded by saying: “Drivers speak to the media as soon as they get out of the car, and frustration is more evident in the heat of the moment. Our car is inconsistent, but on Saturday, Charles Leclerc secured the third-fastest time in Q3. If you’re within a lap of Max Verstappen’s time, the car shouldn’t be so impossible to drive.
