Engineers F1 market always open
For several weeks now, the Formula 1 paddock has been discussing the transfer market. The focus is on Scuderia Ferrari, whose prolonged absence from the top step of the podium has recently increased impatience in an environment that has been waiting for a Formula One world championship title for almost two decades and still hasn’t found the key to initiating a truly winning and competitive project.
The recent rumors reported by the British media regarding Lewis Hamilton’s possible move to Ferrari turned out to be what they were – mere transfer market speculations. However, it is true that the team in red is seriously considering the recruitment of important technicians from rival teams.
Engineers in the spotlight
Like many other direct competitors, the Maranello team has set its sights primarily on the engineering department of Red Bull, given the performance of the Austrian side in the last two seasons. The winners are always courted, and as admitted by Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko himself, the presence of the budget cap doesn’t allow the Milton Keynes team to retain all their top technical talents. Even Aston Martin, currently the second force on the track, has built its resurgence thanks in part to a massive recruitment campaign targeting individuals who worked for the team led by Christian Horner.
Focus on Pierre Waché
Scuderia Ferrari would have set its sights on Pierre Waché, the technical director of the reigning world champion team. Helmut Marko himself, while acknowledging Ferrari’s interest in one of the key figures of the team, ruled out the possibility of the French engineer’s departure, saying, “It doesn’t work like that; we’re not a bazaar.” This comment was in response to the hypothesis of an exchange that would also involve Laurent Mekies, the current sporting director of Ferrari and future team principal of AlphaTauri.

Distant transfer
However, the main issue for Ferrari is different: Pierre Waché seems to have no intention of leaving Red Bull for Maranello. This was anticipated by Helmut Marko himself in the last few weeks and has now been confirmed by British journalist Joe Saward. “I heard that Ferrari wants Pierre Waché, but he is not interested,” Joe Saward wrote in his blog. Rob Marshall, on the other hand, will have a different destiny as the new technical director of McLaren. Therefore, Frederic Vasseur’s hunt for some new significant additions will have to continue.
