Ferrari looks beyond Zandvoort
Formula 1 returns from the summer break and will visit Max Verstappen’s stronghold, Zandvoort, where the world champion has dominated in both qualifying and the race for the past three years. This Sunday, the Dutch track might once again turn orange, but this time due to a McLaren that has been the new benchmark in the Circus for months. Ferrari, on the other hand, seems to have few weapons at its disposal at the moment and is likely to start behind Max Verstappen and McLaren in the pecking order (not to mention Mercedes, which has won three of the last four races). Team principal Frédéric Vasseur is aware of this and is playing defensively ahead of the Grand Prix in the Netherlands.
Fred Vasseur’s comments
The Frenchman is looking forward to the Monza weekend in front of the Tifosi for a return to the top with the SF-24: “We also have a good segment of tracks for us, with Monza, Baku, and Singapore, tracks suited to the car’s characteristics. The most important thing is to score points. The goal for Spa-Francorchamps was not to lose points to McLaren and Red Bull, and it will be the same at Zandvoort. I am convinced that the next three or four races will be much better for us.” – the French manager pointed out.
“We are pushing as hard as possible to bring something, and we will do so as soon as possible. Fixing the bouncing is a step forward in performance,” Fred Vasseur said regarding Ferrari’s upcoming aerodynamic updates for the SF-24 single-seater.
“I think Spa is a great example for everyone: Mercedes was really struggling on Friday, but as soon as you fix something, you can recover from P7 to P1. We keep insisting that we need to pay attention to every single detail,” he concluded. “It’s no longer like two years ago when finishing fourth or seventh meant being a minute behind Verstappen: for example, in Hungary, we finished in the same position as a year ago, but we’re 20 seconds behind, not 65.” – the Ferrari team principal concluded ahead of the first round after the summer break.
