A heavy debacle
Lewis Hamilton climbed onto the podium once again in the second Sprint of the season, finishing in third place behind the McLarens in Miami, thanks to a perfect strategy moving from intermediate tires to dry ones. However, without the advantage of favorable circumstances, the Ferrari SF-25 in Miami seems destined for an uneventful Sunday, as both Williams drivers, Carlos Sainz and Alexander Albon, are ahead of Charles Leclerc, who is in eighth place.
“We struggled to put the lap together and take advantage of the new tires,” Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur said to Sky Sport. “We’re losing something with the new tires, because four of the five-tenths we lose are in the first two corners, then in the rest of the lap we lose just another tenth. We need to understand what we’re doing wrong, something is certainly wrong. Do we need upgrades? This car was the fastest on track in the race in Jeddah, it’s a matter of extracting the potential. Tomorrow, we’re hoping for a nice rainfall. Today, in the Sprint, we managed to get on the podium thanks to strategy. I’m convinced that our pace will be better in the race over the long distance, but starting from where we are, it will be difficult to recover. We’ll see how the first lap goes and what our rhythm will be.” – the French manager explained at the end of the qualifying session for the Miami Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton will start from 12th place after being eliminated in Q2. This time, the British driver was not far from Charles Leclerc, only 58 thousandths behind.
