French motor sport engineer Frederic Vasseur, who is the founder of ART Grand Prix, and current Sauber boss, talks about the 2019 Formula One season and Kimi Raikkonen’s return to the team with which he made his F1 debut:
“Kimi is a godsend. We have a good understanding, there is no bullshit, we tell each other clearly what we think. Kimi can help us and he comes more and more often to the factory.” – he said.
Asked about his position at Sauber, Fred Vasseur added: “I haven’t regretted (taking the job) yet. We should achieve a lot with the great infrastructure and the unique wind tunnel. And unlike most teams, we can make decisions from one minute to the next. That accelerates the processes.” – he explained. – “There were around 320 people when I started – today there are 430. We have hired over 50 new engineers alone. For 2019 we still have 35 vacancies. Thanks to the name of Alfa Romeo it will be easier to fill the positions. We have become a very good address.”
And when will the Alfa Sauber C38 be ready? “This takes time. It will be mid-February. Shortly before the start of testing in Barcelona. We’re all excited and motivated.” – Fred Vasseur concluded.
