Ferrari, a bitter Saturday in Monte Carlo
Considering how the weekend in Monte Carlo unfolded, with Carlos Sainz immediately showing great form and Red Bull struggling in the first practice session on the streets of Monte Carlo, the second and third row scored by Ferrari in qualifying is not pleasing for the Scuderia.
It was still a double top-5 placement (until the FIA officially gave Charles Leclerc a three-place grid penalty due to the incident with Lando Norris), but the coveted victory that was within reach in Monaco is now out of grasp. Without a pole position, and with an unnecessary penalty received by Charles Leclerc, even a “simple” podium becomes an uphill battle. Team principal Frederic Vasseur is well aware of this and does not hide his disappointment in his interview with Sky Sport F1.
Fred Vasseur’s words
“I’m angry because we ended up one-tenth off pole position. It’s not a bad result, but we expected a better position,” these are Fred Vasseur’s words to Sky Sport F1. “We still have two cars in the top-5, and it will be an advantage to play with these positions in the race tomorrow. We missed something more in FP3, we were further behind, but we managed to recover for qualifying. Now, we need to react and perform well in the race. If we talk about a few tenths, we can say that the performance is there, but we need to put everything together to solve some small details. Perhaps what we lacked was the optimization of FP3 because in qualifying, we were there from the beginning; evidently, we made a mistake.” – the French manager pointed out.
