“Scuderia Ferrari announces that Frederic Vasseur will take the role of team principal and general manager from 9 January 2023” – this was the official statement with which the Italian side confirmed a few weeks ago that the French manager would join from Alfa Romeo Sauber with the approval of Carlos Tavares, number one of the Stellantis group.
Frederic Vasseur is now preparing to take over as head of the Ferrari Formula 1 Racing Division, with the goal of bringing the Italian side back at the top by challenging Red Bull and Mercedes in the 2023 Formula 1 season. As reported by today’s edition of Il Corriere della Sera, in fact, Frederic Vasseur has already met with his predecessor Mattia Binotto to receive a general overview of the activities and has visited the Gestione Sportiva in Maranello, a first tour to get to know the men and departments and start the new era, with him as leader and under the close observation of Benedetto Vigna.
The Ferrari chief executive officer will be very active in a new dynamic: Fred Vasseur will have less effective powers and will ‘only’ be general manager, while Mattia Binotto was in fact managing director, with more responsibilities even outside the track activities. Fred Vasseur is now looking for his new location in Maranello to stay as close as possible to the factory: “The French manager is already operational. Vasseur is looking for a house near Maranello. He spoke to Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, the drivers. He is in constant contact with Benedetto Vigna, the CEO of Ferrari. Surely the former leader of Alfa Sauber will want to quickly leave his mark on the Scuderia”, writes Leo Turrini for the Il Resto del Carlino.
