In terms of organization chart, the presence of Frederic Vasseur is undoubtedly the most important novelty of Ferrari’s 2023 Formula 1 season. The French engineer and manager – a former Renault and Alfa Romeo Sauber team boss – was in fact chosen by the president John Elkann and the managing director Benedetto Vigna to take over the role of Ferrari team principal by replacing Mattia Binotto, who left his the office last December.
And so from January 9 Frederic Vasseur started his activity in Maranello, inheriting the team that finished second in the drivers’ and constructors’ championship last season. From the very first interviews, the Frenchman has shown himself determined and aware of the high expectations from the management and the fans, who see the world championship title as the goal for the new Formula 1 season that is now upon us. Obviously the 54-year-old from Draveil took part in the presentation of the new SF-23. Below are the statements made during the event.
“Who will win first between Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc? I don’t care and it doesn’t matter” – Frederic Vasseur immediately wanted to clarify, reiterating his idea according to which the team, the Ferrari name, comes before everything else – “The important thing is to have Ferrari in first place. This is the goal of the whole team. No doubt we will push for both drivers equally and see what happens in Bahrain. But the most important thing is to put Ferrari first.” – the Ferrari boss said.
The comments made by Frederic Vasseur, are in line with this heared over the winter. There will be no initial hierarchy between the two drivers, at least in the first GPs, but freedom to fight as long as they always put the team’s needs first. Then, late in the season, the necessary assessments will be made based on the situation in the world championship standings.

Frederic Vasseur then also enjoyed throwing a little jab at the rival teams, underlining how Ferrari did not hide behind virtual presentations, but organized a real ‘in person’ event to show the new SF-23 to the public. “Compared to the presentations of the other teams, this is different. There everything was virtual, online. I don’t want to talk about the others, but doing something like this with the fans and all the guests is really the best way to start the season.” – he concluded.
