At the Helm of the Prancing Horse
Since taking charge in January 2023, Frederic Vasseur, in his role as team principal and general manager of Scuderia Ferrari, has secured three victories so far. One came last year with Carlos Sainz at the Marina Bay street circuit in the Singapore Grand Prix, and two in the first part of this season, one again with Carlos Sainz at the Albert Park circuit in the Australian Grand Prix and one with Charles Leclerc on the streets of Monaco Grand Prix in Monte Carlo. This haul should be seen in the context of Red Bull’s dominance with 28 wins and compared with other competitors—Mercedes with 3 wins and McLaren with 2.
Aim for Stability
In an interview given during the Belgian Grand Prix weekend to Rtbf, Frederic Vasseur outlined Ferrari’s future plans: “There is no magic formula in our work, it takes time. It must be emphasized that recruitment takes a lot of time. The procedure to identify the reinforcement consists first in understanding what we need, then in choosing the right person. And all this takes several months. Not to mention that this person may still have a contract elsewhere and we have to wait.” – the French manager pointed out.
Frederic Vasseur’s reasoning is simple: “Changing every six months doesn’t work. Success stories in Formula 1 have been built on stability. The best example is Jean Todt, who had some difficult years before achieving victory, but the winning period lasted a long time.”
A final comment from the Ferrari team principal on the Charles Leclerc – Lewis Hamilton pairing for the 2025 Formula 1 championship: “Lewis has the dream of driving for Ferrari, he is not coming because of me. Perhaps I just helped to align the stars…,” concluded the French manager.
