Scuderia Ferrari Spanish Carlos Sainz has reflected on his first three years as a driver for the Italian side and explained what it means to race with such a prestigious team like the Prancing Horse, highlighting the unconditional love of fans for the Maranello-based Scuderia. Despite his adventure not starting as desired, mainly due to uncompetitive cars, Carlos Sainz still considers himself proud to don the red suit every weekend.
Carlos Sainz explains what it means to be a Ferrari driver and to be loved by thousands of fans.
“I am very, very proud,” the Spanish driver stated in an interview with the F1 website. “Especially to have arrived in a team like Ferrari, wearing red every weekend. I don’t take it for granted, because I know how difficult it is and how meaningful it is. How much it has cost me to get here, how much I’ve had to sacrifice and commit for this.” – the Ferrari man pointed out.
“But now, I’m also trying to have as much fun as possible, to live my dream while staying focused and improving. I always try to improve as a driver and be a better person.”
Carlos Sainz’s adventure with Ferrari had started off well, finishing the championship ahead of Charles Leclerc, even though the SF21 was far from a winning car. In 2022, however, not aided by an F1-75 that suited the Monegasque’s driving style better, the Spanish driver struggled to keep up with his teammate.

This year, the internal rivalry seems to be quite balanced. The number 55 is currently only 7 points behind Charles ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix, having been overtaken in the recent Belgian Grand Prix.
“Ferrari is an amazing place to be,” Carlos Sainz added. “Every circuit you go to, you have fans, you have more support than any other driver. Every race almost feels like a home race because of the amount of support you get from all the Ferrari fans around the world.”
“It’s true that it’s also demanding. It’s a mentally demanding team because there’s more pressure around it. We have many sponsors and many events to participate in.”
“I think you need to be at the peak of your career to fully commit as a Ferrari driver. I believe I’m in that phase. I’m still very young but at the same time experienced. I’m making the most of this moment.”
Despite being only 28 years old, Carlos has already become a veteran in the paddock. The driver from Madrid made his debut back in 2015 with Toro Rosso, and next year he will be entering his tenth year in Formula 1.
