In an exclusive interview with Motorsport.com, Charles Leclerc states that discussions for the renewal of his contract with Ferrari have not yet begun, but he desires to stay and win the championship with the Prancing Horse.
Scuderia Ferrari hasn’t won a Formula 1 Drivers’ title in 16 years. The Constructors’ title has been absent for 15 years. Yet its allure remains strong and undiminished. Every driver would want to race for the Prancing Horse, even if just for a few races, because the history that the Italian team has written in the past remains indelible.
Charles Leclerc finds himself facing one of the darkest periods in terms of results for the Scuderia, now led by Frédéric Vasseur this year after the change from Mattia Binotto. It’s yet another season of rebuilding, but one that seems to inspire confidence in the Monegasque driver.
And this is not a trivial matter, as the 25-year-old’s contract with Ferrari is nearing its end. In Maranello, it won’t be enough to focus solely on the team, the performance of the 2023 car, and the preparation for the next year. The foundations need to be solid, and Charles Leclerc is part of the cornerstone on which to build a cycle that can bring Ferrari back to the forefront of Formula 1.
In an exclusive interview with Motorsport Italy, the Monegasque driver stated that he hasn’t yet initiated any discussions to renew his contract with Ferrari, but he has sent out very important signals for his future and that of the Prancing Horse.
There’s no desire to escape, no temptation strong enough to make him give in. His biggest dream remains to win the Drivers’ World Championship in a red suit. The one from Ferrari.

“I’ve always loved Ferrari, and it’s always been my dream to be where I am today. It’s clear that nobody within the team is happy with the situation we’re in, but here, I feel at home. I can’t add much because there hasn’t been any negotiation yet, except for a few jokes.” – he pointed out – “We’ve had other priorities [up until now, regarding the contract renewal], and probably still have them. We’re just focusing on what’s truly important, which is to become competitive again as quickly as possible.” – Charles added.
“I believe every driver considers all the different options, but in my case, my ultimate dream is to become a world champion with Ferrari. I want it more than anything else, so if there’s even a slight chance that it could happen, I won’t have any doubts and I’ll push to stay where I am.” – the Monegasque driver continued.
These are significant words for an athlete, especially in today’s world, where communication is often so carefully crafted to leave several doors open to not foreclose any opportunities. A competitive car will be needed, similar to the F1-75 of the first half of the past season, and it will be necessary to maintain its performance until the end to have a chance at bringing back the titles that have been absent for over three decades. Ferrari knows this, and so does Charles Leclerc, who continues to believe in his dream painted in red.
