Following rumors about Fernando Alonso’s situation and Formula 1 future, there were also whispers about the possibility of canceling the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. This would have meant that the end of the 2023 Formula 1 championship took place at the brand-new Las Vegas circuit.
Behind this possibility were the recent clashes that have characterized the Middle East in recent weeks. Given the high number of people involved, this situation cannot be overlooked by the governing bodies.
Formula 1 and the FIA were quick to put an end to these speculations, announcing that the Grand Prix will proceed as planned, and there is no danger of cancellation.
It’s worth remembering that Formula 1 faced a similar situation last year when a factory near the Jeddah circuit was attacked, precisely while the cars were on the track for the free practice sessions of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
To support the FIA and F1’s statement, it should be noted that rookie tests for the WEC are scheduled for this weekend in Bahrain, and as of now, there has been no communication regarding a potential cancellation of these tests.
