Formula 1 has issued an official update for the fans that took part in the 2021 Belgian Grand Prix after many calls for the public to be refunded. The Spa-Francorchamps event was a complete washed-out due to the bad weather conditions, as drivers were able to stay on track for only a couple of laps behind the safety car, as fans had to wait patiently in the rain for almost three hours as the start was delayed several times and eventually the race was suspended.
Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali initially dismissed ideas the sport could refund the fans before a U-turn was made to hold discussions between the sport and the race promoters regarding a possible solution for this matter. A recent statement from Formula 1 informs:
“Following the impact of the weather on the Belgian Grand Prix on Sunday 29th August, Formula 1 and the promoter are working through various options for ticket holders, to express our recognition and thanks to them for their dedication and commitment. We will provide further details as soon as possible as we want to thank the fans for their continued support and passion for Formula 1.”
An announcement and further details are expected on the matter in the next week.
