Liberty Media could bring Formula 1 back to Argentina starting in 2027 after the recent announcement.
Following its acquisition of MotoGP, Liberty Media continues its expansion strategy. It was recently confirmed that the Argentine Grand Prix for MotoGP will change location beginning in 2027, an agreement that could also involve Formula 1 in the future.
A new opportunity for Formula 1?
From 2027, Buenos Aires will host the MotoGP World Championship, replacing the current round held at Termas de Río Hondo. This decision could also influence the future of Formula 1, considering Stefano Domenicali’s ambition to expand the reach of the championship to as many markets as possible.
Formula 1 last visited the South American country in 1998, when Michael Schumacher was the final winner before the event disappeared from the calendar. That race also took place in Buenos Aires, the same city that could now welcome the sport again in 2027. The circuit, however, requires significant updates that will begin in the coming months. “Starting in October, the necessary works will begin. The track, paddock, and pit lane will be modified with the most modern technologies. It will be an important investment that will restore the city to the center of the sporting scene,” said Jorge Macri, Chief of Government of Buenos Aires.
It now remains to be seen whether, during negotiations between Liberty Media and the Argentine organizers, the subject of a potential Formula 1 comeback to Buenos Aires has also been included.
