F1, Stefno Domenicali
The constraints imposed by the budget cap will shorten winning cycles and make the grid more balanced starting from the near future, according to former Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali. Interviewed by Rai Radio 1, the current President and CEO of the Formula One Group praised the work carried out by the FIA and Liberty Media in the last three years, specifying that the cost cap – introduced in 2020 amid the Covid-19 crisis and refined over the past seasons – will enhance the on-track spectacle – contrary to what has happened in recent years – and level the playing field.
Stefno Domenicali, his confidence in the budget cap system
“Max practically won the Constructors’ title alone, but the team demonstrated great organization throughout the season. It’s no coincidence that winning cycles are linked to a combination of people and technology. Everyone contributes to achieving the goal. I have no doubt that the budget cap will shorten these cycles. In Abu Dhabi, for example, we had 20 cars within one second. The current operating context should allow us to significantly reduce these cycles.” – the Formula 1 chief executive officer continued.
Mercedes-Red Bull: a decade of dominance
For the past two years, Red Bull has been dominating the scene far and wide. A period of significant successes, characterized by Max Verstappen, following the era of Mercedes with Lewis Hamilton from 2014 to 2020. According to Stefano Domenicali, this should no longer occur with the full implementation of the budget cap (currently, top teams are exploiting the technical and performance advantage gained in previous seasons).
