The FIA has confirmed the zones where it will be possible to use the DRS system in the next round of the 2021 Formula One season, the Italian Grand Prix.
After the strong victory of Max Verstappen on his home track in Zandvoort, F1 teams and drivers will return to battle inside the “Temple of Speed” in Monza, this year confirmed to take place with an audience capacity at 50% (the last year the race took place in the absence of fans).
The FIA, for this weekened, which will mark the end of the triple-header Spa – Zabdvoort – Monza, has chosen to activate two DRS zones, which will be positioned on the main straight of the circuit and on the straight that leads from Lesmo 2 to Ascari. The zones, of course, will have two different detection points: the first will be placed before the Parabolica, while the second between Lesmo 1 and 2.
The weekend program, remember, totally changes its format compared to the “standard” races: the first session of the free practice is scheduled at 2.30 pm (local Italian hour), while the first qualifying will take place on the same afternoon at 6.00 pm. On Saturday morning at 12.00, the drivers will have the opportunity to run for another free practice session before the “Sprint Race” at 16.30. Sunday, at 3.00 pm, the actual start of the Grand Prix. In case of rain, the weekend format would be brought back to the classic one with three sessions of free practice, qualifying and race on Sunday.
