Ex-Scuderia Ferrari boss Marco Mattiacci has been officially announced as a new signing by Aston Martin, but his tasks and responsibilities will not be directly linked with their Formula 1 side of their operation.
Marco Mattiacci took temporary control of Ferrari in 2014 after the departure of current Formula One CEO Stefano Domenicali, but remained in charge of the Italian side for only year as Maurizio Arrivabene was named as his compatriot’s long-term replacement the following year.
Marco Mattiacci’s time with Scuderia Ferrari was far from successful, with a winless start to the turbo-hybrid Formula 1 era.
The 51-year-old was actually appointed by Aston Martin since last year in a “growth and development consultancy role” but the British car company explained at that time that he was being brought in simply as an “advisor to Aston Martin Lagonda.”
Now though, the Italian is set to join as chief brand and commercial officer, and he is immensely excited by his new chapter.
“The new chapter for Aston Martin is the most exciting project in the automotive industry right now, and I am thrilled to join the incredible leadership team assembled by Lawrence Stroll and [CEO] Tobias Moers in this role of Global Chief Brand and Commercial Officer,” he explained.
“Having enjoyed global affection, passion and loyalty for 109 years, Aston Martin is now igniting a new breed of customers with its next generation of product, ultra-luxury customer experience and return to grand prix racing. Working as part of a skilled and passionate team, I look forward to being the custodian of this iconic brand which sits uniquely in the crosshairs of ultra-luxury and high performance.”
In an official press releases announcing their new employee, Aston Martin infomed that Marco Mattiacci will “also oversee Aston’s Martin’s industry-leading luxury customer experience and the brand and product integration with Formula 1 as a key global marketing platform.”
