The season finale of the 2021 Formula 1 World Championship turned the spotlight on the world championship battle between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. For the Italian media, the absence of Ferrari from the fight for first place did not go unnoticed, of course. The Maranello team showed a clearly better form than twelve months before, but not yet such as to be able to compete for victory. A Grand Prix win has been missing for over two years, and the last one to take it was Sebastian Vettel, who won the Singapore Grand Prix ahead of team mate Charles Leclerc. The podium scored by Carlos Sainz in the final race in Abu Dhabi did not have the spotlight it deserved, as all attention was directed to the battle between Verstappen and Hamilton.
2022 will therefore be a fundamental season, for which Ferrari – like other teams – has been preparing in detail for some time now. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, thanks to the aerodynamic revolution that could level the gap as compared to Mercedes and Red Bull, hope to have a car capable of fighting for race wins, to give fans the satisfaction they have been waiting for too many years.

Italian businessman Flavio Briatore, who worked as team principal for Renault and previously as managing director of Benetton, was interviewed by the Adnkronos agency amd wanted to point out that Ferrari has no room for mistakes:
“This year Ferrari did not have a championship as good as it should have. Third place in Abu Dhabi with Carlos Sainz is fine, but Ferrari must race in a Grand Prix to try to take first place and not third. There is a lot of work to be done at Ferrari, now that there are changes in the regulations and if Ferrari is not competitive at least to fight for the top positions, at that moment I think they need to overhaul everything and once again make many structural technical changes” – Flavio Briatore concluded.
