Flavio Briatore reflects on his new role in Formula 1. Flavio Briatore reflects on his new role in F1.

Flavio Briatore, in addition to recently becoming popular on social media for having opened a restaurant where a pizza costs on average as much as a New Year’s Eve dinner, was in the past also the team manager of the Benetton team, which later became Renault, winning four F1 world titles (constructors and drivers) together with Fernando Alonso in 2005 and 2006.

In an interview for ‘Forbes’, the Italian entrepreneur was asked to talk about what was the most fruitful meeting of his career: “I would say the one with Luciano Benetton. He gave me an opportunity. I was just one of his representatives in the US, he asked me to go to England to see the investment they had made in an F1 team. I went to London and after five to six months the contract was signed. At first I was the marketing and sales director, but in a few months I managed to become the team’s CEO. “

Wealth and how to build it
Continuing the interview, his point of view on wealth and how it can be obtained is interesting: “Wealth is that thing that allows you to have the best doctors and a comfortable life. It is achieved by working hard, so most of the time you don’t even have time to enjoy it. True wealth is creating wealth around you. Make everyone around you wealthy. On the other hand, however, the richer you are, the more you invest, so you must be careful to proportion your investments. Let’s say that wealth allows your family to live in comfort and lo and behold, perhaps those who enjoy wealth the most are my son and the people close to me. When you work 12 hours a day you cannot take advantage of all the advantages that being rich offers you “.

According to Flavio Briatore there are two characteristics that a good manager must have: “He must be able to listen and understand. A good manager, when he joins a company, needs a few months to understand what is happening and where he has arrived. The direction is then given by the entrepreneur, but the manager must be good at coordinating everyone and making them believe in the project and in the company. A manager must accompany his collaborators to obtain what they think is right to have”.

His new role in Formula 1
Finally, the Italian entrepreneur also emphasized his new role in Formula 1, after being dismissed from the sport following the events in Singapore 2008, when he ordered Nelson Piquet Jr to cause a crash so that the Safety Car was deployed to help Fernando Alonso win the race: “I became a Formula 1 ambassador a short time ago,” said Flavio Briatore. “I am in charge of entertainment. We are revolutionizing the Paddock Club, which will be called Privé. In addition to this, however, my commitment is also aimed at the research and development of GPs in new countries. I would like to thank Stefano Domenicali (F1 president), the Americans of Liberty and Netflix. Formula 1 has never been more popular. Lately the part of the entertainment for the guests had been a bit neglected, but we are working on it. We will reap the first fruits of our work in Abu Dhabi.” – he concluded.
