Through his Instagram account, Italian businessman and former Renault team principal Flavio Briatore, has published a video in which he shared his thoughts on the Japanese Grand Prix which took place last Sunday and on the 2022 Formula One season in general. The Italian manager, as always outspoken, hit out at the FIA for what happened at the beginning and at the end of the race in Japan, but also for the many decisions taken against Ferrari over the course of the championship. Below is an excerpt of his words and the video.
“I want to talk about the last Grand Prix in Japan, because I noticed that nobody talked about it: another mess. Max Verstappen absolutely deserves to win the World Championship together with Red Bull, but it is normal for him to become Champion of the World without even realizing it? Is it normal that the World Champion team didn’t know they won? They realized later, while I understood it only after seeing Christian Horner and Helmut Marko hugging each other. And it’s not like they hug each other every time they win a race, otherwise they would really hug too many times. But does it seem normal to you that the team which won didn’t know that their driver had just won his second title as soon as he crossed the finish line?”. – Flavio Briatore pointed out.
Flavio Briatore and the safety issue
“The race was reduced to 28 laps, but why were full points awarded? Gray information, no one knows. There was no visibility, the cars were very fast and they let two tractors enter the track, do you think this is normal? You will remember Bianchi’s accident, exactly with that dynamic. Gasly found the tractor in front of him with poor visibility, a situation where there is a risk of a fatal accident” – the former team principal added.
Focus on Ferrari
“It is not normal for Charles Leclerc to be penalized because he was in front of the last chicane, he did not impede anyone, on the contrary he returned with Red Bull behind him at the same distance. At most, give him a reprimand, but in three minutes they decided what in three or six hours had not been decided at Monza. Here too, why was Charles Leclerc penalized when he shouldn’t have been? He should have been reprimanded with the warning that if he did it again they would penalize him by five seconds. But nobody told him anything and they penalized him, same situation in Monza, where they took hours to decide. That’s two times when Ferrari was disadvantaged , does this seem normal to you? And I see that no one reacts at Ferrari, no one says anything and the newspapers write very little about it.” – Flavio Briatore concluded.
