Ferrari had a few moments dreaming of glory in Monza, after the competitiveness shown on Friday during the free practice session and the great pole position secured by Charles Leclerc in Saturday’s qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix. In addition to this, the Maranello team hoped to also have a small advantage thanks to the penalty of championship leader Max Verstappen, who was forced to start from seventh place on the grid.
However, the Monegasque driver of the Maranello team was unable to convert yet another pole position into a final victory – it only happened in 4 out of 17 occasions – due to the impressive race pace of his Dutch rival, associated with some bad luck during the Virtual Safety and Safety Car periods that could have reshuffled the cards and given the Ferrari drivers a chance.
Mattia Binotto, head of the Maranello team, honestly admitted that a victory on Sunday at Monza would be very difficult, highlighting the strength of Max Verstappen, who quickly got rid of the opponents that separated him from Charles Leclerc and set out in pursuit of his rival.
After the race, the Germans from Bild interviewed Flavio Briatore, long-time manager in Formula 1 who recently returned to the sport to support the commercial development of F1. The Italian businessman summed up the recent difficulties of the Prancing Horse with a joke:

“It is incredible how Ferrari manages to ruin everything in every race.” – the former Renault team principal said, despite the fact that this time it was pretty clear the pace of the F1-75 was not enough to beat the Red Bull RB18 of Max Verstappen at the Monza circuit – “Ferrari made too many mistakes this year. They ruined too many races when they had the chance to win in the first part of the season and had the fastest car on the track. It’s unacceptable not be able to fight for the title with such a car.” – Flavio Briatore pointed out.
