“Zandvoort can be another Monaco race” – This is how Pierre Gasly presented the weekend that awaits Formula 1 in Holland, a land that welcomes the sport back after an absence that has lasted since 1985. Compared to back then, the circuit has completely changed. The length has remained similar, but what was once a track characterized by fast corners is now a very narrow toboggan in which the Formula Renault Eurocup recently struggled a lot for any sort of overtaking despite the two special corners made by the Italian Dromo in the restyling phase of the track especially ahead of Formula 1’s return at Zandvoort.
Scuderia Ferrari today is engaged in a filming day at Fiorano which involved both Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc at the wheel of the SF21 car. In Monaco Charles Leclerc was able to score pole position and Carlos Sainz took second place in the race behind Max Verstappen. The Monegasque was unfortunately unable to participate in the Grand Prix due to the damage suffered in a crash which took place in the end of the qualifying session on the streets of Monte Carlo. The investigation carried out by Ferrari had not shown any damage, but on the formation lap from the pits to the starting grid the SF21 number #16 had problems that made it impossible for Charles to start the race.
The upcoming weekend could represent a great opportunity for Ferrari to take on the role of referee in the challenge between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton for the drivers ‘title and between Red Bull and Mercedes in the constructors’ standings. The Dutch track, in fact, like the Monegasque one, could be suitable for the characteristics of the SF21. In view of a completely new appointment, Ferrari has decided to take part in its annual available filming day – or at least part of the 100 km which are allowed for promotional purposes – in the preparation for the Dutch Grand Prix weekend, perhaps the last great opportunity to fight for a victory that has been missing for almost two years now.
