No more new candidates
With the arrival of June, the deadline set by the International Federation for potential new teams to submit their entry applications for the upcoming Formula 1 championships has officially expired. While maintaining total secrecy regarding the names and profiles of those who have expressed interest in joining the sport, the governing body will now work to evaluate the requests received in recent months, which must comply with certain key criteria set by the FIA in order to participate regularly in the championship.
More than one potential new entry
Firstly, the Federation has stated that it will consider applications from multiple interested parties, rather than evaluating a single candidate. Consequently, if the economic and technical conditions are met, we could witness the entry of multiple entities. Among them, those frequently mentioned in recent months include Andretti Cadillac, as well as Formula Equal, a project supported by a Gulf country and confirmed by Craig Pollock.
Total privacy
The only certain thing is that, from this point onwards, the FIA will no longer accept entry applications from other candidates, as explained by a Federation spokesperson to racer.com: “The deadline for submitting applications for potential new entrants is now closed,” they reiterated. “The FIA is conducting an initial review of the applications received. There will be no communications during this part of the process, as the FIA is committed to respecting the confidentiality of the applicants, although it may be necessary to seek clarifications with potential participants.”
The criteria to be met
As a result, the number of applications received in Paris will not be specified, while the required criteria for new teams to obtain approval to enter Formula 1 are much clearer: “The evaluation of each application will particularly concern the technical capabilities and resources of the applicant team, the team’s ability to gather and maintain sufficient funding to enable participation in the championship at a competitive level, and the team’s experience and human resources,” they added. “For the first time ever, each candidate must explain how they intend to address the sustainability challenge and achieve a net-zero CO2 impact by 2030. Every future F1 team must also outline how it intends to achieve a positive social impact through its participation in this sport. This would contribute to meeting the mutual objectives of the FIA and Formula One Management. The overall long-term interests of the championship, involving all stakeholders, will determine the selected candidates in conjunction with applicable regulations and governance agreements.” – the spokesperson concluded.
