The FIA has formalized the areas where it will be possible to use the drag reduction system (DRS) in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend, the last round of the 2021 Formula 1 World Championship.
After the victory scored by Lewis Hamilton in Saudi Arabia, which included all the controversies of the case related to the incidents with Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen, teams and drivers will return to battle at Yas Marina, a circuit that for this year’s edition will present a totally revised layout. The two contenders for the championship, we recall, will arrive in the Emirate on equal points, an aspect that will keep everyone in suspense until the last lap on Sunday.

As last year, the race control has chosen to activate two DRS zones, which will be positioned in the straight between turns 5 and 6 and in the straight between turns seven and nine (the latter has changed in design compared to the past). The detection points will be placed just before the 5 and 6.
The weekend program, we recall, includes two free sessions lasting one hour on Friday and FP3 on Saturday morning. These 60 minutes of activity on the track will be the last chance for teams and drivers to work on the set-up in preparation for qualifying at 17 (14 CET.) The 13th Abu Dhabi Grand Prix gets underway at 17 local (14 CET) on Sunday.
