Mohammed Ben Sulayem’s staff at the FIA continues to lose members: it has been officially announced that Sara Mariani, head of Sustainability, Diversity and Inclusion, has been dismissed from her role after just eighteen months as a result of a departmental restructuring set to begin on June 20.
The FIA stated that it will split the role held by Sara Mariani into two separate professional positions: “Following the changes decided, Director of Sustainability and D&I Sara Mariani will leave the Federation on June 20, 2025. The FIA is immensely grateful to Sara for her hard work with this team since 2023, and has taken steps to ensure she receives full support during this transition.”
The FIA’s sustainability program will now fall under the leadership of Willem Groenewald, Secretary General for Mobility, while Diversity and Inclusion will be managed by the Director of Human Resources, Alessandra Malhame.
Sara Mariani’s departure from the governing body follows the resignation of Robert Reid as FIA Vice President for Sport in April. Over the past year, several high-profile figures have exited: Paolo Basarri, Bertrand Badre, Tom Purves, and Natalie Robyn, the first woman to have served as the FIA’s CEO.
There has also been the departure of Niels Wittich, who left his role as Race Director, along with Tim Mayer, F1 steward, and Janette Tan, Deputy Race Director in F2.
Johnny Herbert was also removed from his position as GP sporting steward.
