The FIA has officially launched an application process for new teams to join Formula 1 from the 2025 championship: this will be the first step to evaluate the viability of potential new Formula 1 teams.
The Formula 1 governing body has now confirmed that parties with “serious intent” to join the sport are invitated to take part in this application process which could lead to a place on the Formula 1 grid.
Prospective teams are invited to express their interest. Following this, the teams will receive further application instructions from the governing body regarding the next steps.
The FIA has pointed out the fact that applicants will be evaluated through a “rigorous financial and technical analysis” and also be selected based on “sustainability and positive societal impact” criteria.
At the same the, the Formula 1 governing body confirmed that they would “involve all stakeholders” when making the final decision regarding the candidates that are selected for approval.

The official press release was issued a few weeks following the statements made by President Mohammed Ben Sulayem on his social media accounts in which he confirmed that the FIA would ‘look into’ setting up an Expression of Interest process.
Since that moment there was also the official confirmation of the partnership between Andretti and General Motors, the project that seems to have the best chance of receiving a place on the grid. Asia-based project Panthera has also since reiterated their intention to join the sport in the future years.
