The FIA has officially declared a Heat Hazard for the 2026 Italian Grand Prix at Monza after forecasts indicated that the heat index will exceed 31°C at some point during Sunday’s race. The decision activates the measures set out in the Formula 1 regulations for particularly hot conditions, including the option for drivers to use a cooling vest.
The latest weather forecast for the 2026 Italian Grand Prix leaves little room for doubt: Monza is expected to experience an entirely dry weekend accompanied by particularly high temperatures.
FIA declares Heat Hazard for the 2026 Italian GP
With intense heat expected at the Temple of Speed, the FIA has formally declared a Heat Hazard, meaning the relevant protocols will be in place during the Monza race weekend.
Drivers will have the option of using a cooling vest designed to help reduce body temperature. Those who choose not to use the device will instead have additional ballast fitted, as required by the regulations, in order to maintain technical parity between drivers using the cooling system and those who decide to race without it.
The measure ensures that choosing not to wear the cooling vest does not create a weight advantage, maintaining the technical balance between the different options available to the drivers.
Heat index forecast to exceed 31°C during the Monza race
The FIA confirmed that its decision was based on the official weather forecast for Sunday’s Grand Prix.
“In accordance with Article B1.5.10 of the FIA F1 Regulations, having received from the Official Weather Service a forecast according to which the Heat Index will exceed 31.0°C at some point during the race of this Event, a Heat Hazard is declared,” the FIA statement read.
The declaration adds another challenge for the drivers during an already demanding weekend at Monza. High temperatures are expected throughout the event, while the weather forecast points to dry conditions rather than rain as the main environmental factor for the Italian Grand Prix.
The extreme heat will therefore be a major consideration as Formula 1 prepares for Ferrari’s home event at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. Fans heading to the circuit can also find the latest information on attendance and tickets for the 2026 Italian Grand Prix.
For the drivers, however, the priority will be coping with the physical demands created by the conditions. With the Heat Hazard formally declared, the cooling-vest option and the corresponding ballast requirement will form part of the regulatory framework for Sunday’s race at Monza.
