Official statement from the Federation following today’s meeting
F1 regulations, common ground being sought
As reported in recent days, yesterday, April 9, marked the first in a series of meetings convened by the FIA to discuss potential modifications to the much-criticised 2026 Formula 1 regulations.
Gathered around the table were representatives from the Federation, technical experts from the teams, and engine manufacturers, with the shared intention of addressing the most critical aspects of the rules that have emerged during the opening three races of the season.
“It was agreed between the parties that, although the events held so far have delivered exciting racing, there is a commitment to make changes to certain aspects of the regulations in the area of energy management. A constructive dialogue took place on complex topics, especially considering the competitive nature of the parties involved,” the Federation explained.
The FIA plan: more meetings on April 15 and 16
During the meeting, technical data gathered from the first three race weekends of the 2026 season was analysed, and further discussions are already scheduled over the next two weeks.
On April 15, the focus will shift to the sporting regulations, with particular attention placed on revisions to Section B, seen as a first step toward facilitating broader technical changes.
On April 16, another technical session will take place, during which the topics discussed today, along with additional issues that may arise in the meantime, will be reviewed in detail.
April 20 is expected to be the decisive day: team principals will also be present, and a vote will be held on the proposals developed by technical teams in the previous meetings, with the aim of reaching consensus on the path forward. The Federation also underlined the spirit of collaboration that has emerged at this stage between teams, engine manufacturers, the commercial rights holder, and the FIA itself.
The agreed changes will then be submitted to the FIA World Motor Sport Council, which will convene in an extraordinary session for an electronic vote.
