Jean Todt, President of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), has confirmed that he is in favor of the ongoing changes in Formula 1, but fears that some will harm the sport. The former Ferrari boss, therefore, revealed to the Cambridge Union that certain decisions must be taken with caution:
“If we can find innovative ways to create more show in Formula 1 we will apply them, but always without damaging the sport. There is an intention to introduce a Super Qualifying in two or perhaps three Grands Prix starting this year. We would be really happy to change something, but we certainly don’t want to damage F1.” – he explained.
Jean Todt also confirmed that in 2021 we will not see reverse grids, because they are harmful to the nature of the sport. The former Ferrari Team Principal also shares his thoughts on the budget cap, and explained how much it can change the cards on the table:
“The introduction of the budget cap will certainly be able to mix the cards on the table. Surely those most affected will be Mercedes, RedBull and Ferrari, while the other teams will suffer less. This should be able to ensure a minor discrepancy between all teams in terms of performance.” – Jean Todt concluded.
