The first official investigation of the weekend in Imola is underway and directly involves Charles Leclerc and his Ferrari. During the first free practice session of the 2025 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, the FIA Technical Delegate reported an irregularity. It concerns car no. 16, driven by the Monegasque driver of Scuderia Ferrari.
According to the Technical Delegate’s Report signed by Jo Bauer, it was found that the pressures of the left and right front tires of the set identified as 16602 were modified after a run was completed and the car was stationary in the garage, but before returning to the track using the same set.
Imola GP, Leclerc under investigation: here’s why
The reported issue concerns a failure to comply with the procedures described in technical directive TD003Q 2.g.ii, which precisely defines how and when tire pressure modifications can be made to ensure uniformity and safety in track operations. The change made by Ferrari, therefore, would not have occurred in accordance with the regulations.
Jo Bauer has thus decided to refer the matter to the race stewards for further evaluation and potential sanctions. At the moment, no final decision has been made. Meanwhile, in the first free practice session, the Monegasque driver remained at the back with a lap time clearly not on par with his rivals.
Developments are expected in the coming hours, but the incident raises an initial question mark for Scuderia Ferrari in a weekend that promises to be crucial for the championship, both for technical and symbolic reasons, as it is the first European race of the year on their home circuit.
