Ferrari’s updates (new aero package) for Singapore consists of a new front and rear wing, new floor and diffuser. The upgrades should help Ferrari be closer to Mercedes and Red Bull.

In Singapore, Scuderia Ferrari will bring an important aerodynamic package, as reported by Motorsport Italy. In Maranello they are confident that the upgrades will help Ferrari be closer to Mercedes and Red Bull on the streets of Marina Bay and will also help Sebastian Vettel’s driving style.

Enrico Cardile and the aerodynamic leader David Sanchez have worked on ways to increase the downforce in an attempt to reduce the lack of grip in slow corners that penalizes the SF90. The goal is to reduce the gap from Mercedes and Red Bull and most importantly use the data and information to improve next year’s car, which is emerging on the same rules as this season.

Nobody in Ferrari feels like predicting a brilliant performance in Singapore, but there is the awareness of having worked hard to avoid a similar disappointing outcome like the on in Hungary. At tomorrow’s inspection Ferrari will bring a new front wing with different profiles capable of giving greater vertical thrust, thus helping to bring the front tires to temperature in the hope of making them work in the right window. Obviously the team of the Prancing Horse does not abdicate the outwash philosophy (bring the flows outside the front wheel), but tries to give more stability to the front in the hope of reducing the understeer.

Changes are also planned in the background, particular that during the season, the data which was seen seen at the CFD and in the wind tunnel, did not always match. The changes should also allow a slightly different center of aerodynamic pressure that would meet the driving needs of Sebastian Vettel.

The German likes a car with a well planted rear axle (he was the driver who better than anyone else had been able to exploit the exhaust-blown diffusers) and the news should go in that direction, facilitating the “awakening” of the four-time world champion who at Monza made an error at the Ascari, as he ended up spinning while he was alone after losing the rear. In Singapore Ferrari will have the opportunity to evaluate the fruit of the work done and during the weekend it will be clear if the Maranello team can aspire to a third win this season, maybe in Sochi or Interlagos.
