Scuderia Ferrari continues its upward trajectory in the 2025 Formula 1 season, despite delivering a performance at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone that fell short of pre-race expectations. However, both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc are showing clear alignment and determination in their plans for the future of the team.
Although Silverstone was affected by unpredictable weather conditions, including rain that disrupted Sunday’s Grand Prix, the overall outlook within Ferrari remains optimistic. The performance of the SF-25 was significantly more competitive compared to previous race weekends, and on a dry track, the car would likely have been capable of maintaining the same race pace as the McLaren MCL39. While certain technical and performance-related issues still persist—as highlighted in recent post-race analysis—solutions are already in motion to address them.
The final race classification at the 2025 British Grand Prix may not fully reflect the progress made by Ferrari. Although the SF-25 might appear to have struggled again, the team deserves full consideration for mitigating factors. A key moment came during Q3 in qualifying, when an error cost both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton a shot at pole position. Without that setback, both Ferrari drivers had the pace to challenge for the front row. On race day, the arrival of rain reshuffled strategies and reduced the opportunity to showcase the car’s full potential.
Up until Saturday, Ferrari was actually the strongest challenger to McLaren, according to timing data and race simulations. Team principal Andrea Stella of McLaren even admitted that the race pace of both Ferrari SF-25s had the potential to put pressure on the Woking-based team. The anticipated debut of Ferrari’s new rear suspension system—expected to arrive at the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps—could mark a further turning point. With that upgrade, the Ferrari SF-25 might become a legitimate contender for race victories against the high-performing McLaren MCL39, provided some key refinements are implemented.
Lewis Hamilton reveals details from Ferrari’s internal post-race debrief
Adding to the sense of optimism within the Ferrari garage was seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, who took to the fan stage at Silverstone to share insights from the team’s private post-race debriefing session. According to Hamilton, despite the challenges, there is a strong sense of progress and clarity about the team’s direction.
“This year has been tough, but it has also brought a lot of positives,” said Lewis Hamilton. “From a weekend like this, there is so much we can learn. We just finished a debrief in which we addressed the issues with the car. Both Charles and I provided clear and detailed feedback on what is not working.”
The Briton continued by outlining his vision for the next Ferrari Formula 1 challenger, due in 2026: “I mentioned that there are certain aspects of this current car that I would like to keep in next year’s model. However, there are also things that definitely need to be changed if we want to fight at the very front. That is exactly what I’m focusing on now.”
Behind the scenes, according to Lewis Hamilton, a significant restructuring process is already underway within Scuderia Ferrari, aimed at transforming the team into a consistent title contender. “There are many things happening in the background,” he added, “a proper restructuring is in motion so that we can fight head-to-head with McLaren.”
These comments reflect the growing synergy between Ferrari’s driver lineup and its technical leadership, as Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc continue to work in unison to shape a more competitive and future-proof project for the legendary Maranello-based team.
