Lewis Hamilton’s face finally lit up: Ferrari’s new floor brought both confidence and performance, and after qualifying in Austria, Lewis revealed his target for Sunday’s race.
Ferrari introduced an updated floor, and Lewis Hamilton returned to smiling ways. His fourth place in qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix boosted morale at Maranello. The British champion appeared in post-Q3 interviews with a noticeably improved attitude compared to recent weekends. Sir Lewis Hamilton now has growing confidence in the updated SF-25 and is aiming high for the Spielberg race.
It was finally a competitive SF-25 that showed up at Spielberg. The 2025 Austrian GP qualifying saw Lando Norris take pole position, but Ferrari had plenty of reasons to smile: Leclerc will start from the front row, and Hamilton secured fourth. The gap to the McLaren pole-sitter was significant, especially on such a short circuit, but signs were encouraging for the Maranello squad.
Ferrari executed its qualifying strategy flawlessly, staying close to the dominant McLaren team and maximizing results. The new floor seems to offer both drivers more consistency, something the 2025 SF-25 had often lacked. For seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, it marks his first second-row start in Ferrari red. While P4 isn’t the ultimate goal, he can now look to Sunday’s Grand Prix with optimism.
Hamilton praises Ferrari’s new floor: “Finally, thank you Ferrari”
After qualifying in Styria, Hamilton shared his thoughts: he explained that he wanted to wait until the race to truly assess their competitiveness, but admitted he had done a strong lap before encountering oversteer in Turn 6, which might have cost him a spot on the front row.
Ferrari now finds itself much closer to McLaren and can finally breathe again and aim for strong results. The SF-25’s upgraded floor brought a smile back to the seven-time world champion’s face. He thanked everyone at Maranello for the hard work behind the new floor, saying it was something they had needed for a long time and had definitely helped achieve this performance.
Lewis Hamilton reveals his goal for the Austrian GP
Lewis Hamilton expressed satisfaction with the setup and overall qualifying performance. He noted that the team executed everything perfectly, including tyre strategy, arriving in Q3 with two new sets of softs—something that hadn’t happened before.
“Nothing is impossible if we keep pushing,” he added, with renewed optimism. When asked what he could achieve in the race, Hamilton said he often talks about podiums but this time chose to remain silent and focus on delivering on Sunday. He concluded that if Ferrari can execute a solid race, they could reclaim second place in the Constructors’ Championship.
