Aston Martin on the rise
The idea of making Aston Martin the Ferrari of England was probably taken a little too literally by Lawrence Stroll, who bought shares in the brand in 2020 and brought it back to F1 after the 1959-1960 biennium.
The Canadian billionaire has, in fact, contracted in recent years, both in the automotive and motorsport sides, several figures linked by an important passage through Ferrari. It starts with Amedeo Felisa, historical CEO of the Prancing Horse, who will hold the same corporate position until October 2024 and subsequently continue supervising new models. It continues with Roberto Fedeli, technical director of Maranello and now CTO of Aston Martin, passing through Marco Mattiacci, former Ferrari F1 team principal and now the new commercial manager of the British brand.
But not only that, corporate communications are handled by Roberto Bisignani, with an important background in Maranello. They will be joined by Enrico Cardile, former technical director of Ferrari who just yesterday submitted his resignation after two decades with the Prancing Horse and who will join the Aston Martin Formula 1 team.
Offer to Diego Tondi
Lawrence Stroll is leaving nothing unattempted in his chase to the top of Formula 1 and, as told by Italian journalist and Ferrari insider Leo Turrini on the pages of Quotidiano Nazionale, has also set his sights on Diego Tondi, who since March 2023 has held the position of head of aerodynamic development.
Aston Martin’s proposal, however, would not have gone through: “It is said that he also made an offer to engineer Tondi, now head of aerodynamics in Red. Rejected, however. Fortunately.” – Leo Turrini confirmed.
